Zebeda
DJ Zebede AKA Dr Dave Junglist... Jungle / drum n bass & breaks are my resonance …Tru to my name Zebede...a character in the "Magic Roundabout" a trippy wee childrens show in the 70's ...Zebede is randomly bounciness..."Boing like Zebede" ...and that is definitely my approach to mixing...never staying in one groove all night , but moving across genres within a genre.
Zebede’s Music biography
Zebede grew up in the 60's 70's 80's and was influenced greatly by soul, funk, reggae, punk, industrial and electronica, hip hop, acid house, house, Jazz .
In the 90's all this came together and DJing started for real with all of these influences and the resonating crystal that was hardcore and Jungle on the scene. Initial nights were a mashup of Dub, Dancehall, trip hop, progressive house, techno, ambient, tribal, breakbeat, Jungle and drum n bass.
Zebede played regular nights at a club in Dunedin NZ, bath st, playing from 10 pm to 6am generally and many nights alongside other Junglists.
In addition Zebede played a number of raves and outdoor events around Otago and South Island of NZ.
I have loved the outdoor dance parties and raves and the wonderful community we have. In addition to these events I have played at and done all the sound for benefit Gigs to raise funds for the Papua New Guinea Tsunami relief and a full tribal / Arabic night with many tribal dancers showcasing in aid of Syrian refugees in 2015.
In the early 2000's we spent a lot of time traveling and spent some time in San Francisco, and lived in NYC. The opportunity to be at many nights by the likes of Goldie and Metalheadz, Groovrider and Fabio, Lee Perry, Mad Professor, Spring Heal Jack, Roni Size just to name a few...informed my synchronicity with the culture of the Dub/Breaks/DnB/Junglist continuum.
Over 8 years I have created the soundscape / soundtrack for our community wearable arts nights at our Marae in Karitane , Huriawa, for the Matariki celebrations...and supported many local friends gatherings with tunage as diverse as House, Latin, Reggae, Ska, Dance hall, Hip/Trip Hop, Dub, Afrobeat, Arabic and of course my primary resonating frequencies Drum n Bass n Jungle.
Presently... I play Jungle, DnB and liquid Funk, UK Garage, 2-step and Breakstepppas , and am digging into Breakbeat a lot and some Nu- Disco Nu Soul, 2 stepping especially breaks inspired. I am influenced heavily by soul and reggae and any tunes with exotic flavours and lots of bongos /congas in the mix...in the style of jungle/ DnB/ Breaks I play. Drumfunkin amen laden tech steepin neuro ragga breaks !!
